FakeCatch

FakeCatch: Fake Review Detector

Check Amazon reviews for fakes, one review at a time.

A single grade for a product tells you to be careful. It does not tell you which reviews to ignore. FakeCatch scores each Amazon review where it sits on the page, so you can skip the planted ones and read the real ones.

Runs the same check as the extension. Your text is scored and the score is shown to you; see what happens to it. 10 tries a day.

How to check Amazon reviews

  1. Add FakeCatch to Chrome. There is no account to create.
  2. Open any Amazon product page and scroll to the reviews. Each one gets a coloured badge within about a second.
  3. Click “See more reviews” for the full list; those are scored as you scroll.
  4. Click the FakeCatch icon to see how many reviews look suspicious, and the star average from only the believable ones next to Amazon’s own.
  5. If the two averages are far apart, read the green reviews before you decide.

On every Amazon site

It runs by itself on 22 Amazon country sites, including amazon.com, .co.uk, .de, .fr, .it, .es, .in, .com.au, .ca and .co.jp, on both the product page and the full reviews page. No copying links into another website.

What it looks for

  • Ad-like wording: text that reads like a product listing or marketing copy.
  • Templates: the same stock phrases and sentence shapes as boilerplate.
  • Incentives: mentions of a free product, a discount or a refund in exchange for the review.
  • Off-topic: a review that is plainly about a different product, a sign of hijacked listings.
  • Generic praise with no detail of use. This gets amber, not red, because honest buyers write this way too.

Three reviews, three scores

These are real results from the same check the extension runs. Paste a review into the box above to try your own.

Review (shortened)ScoreWhy
“This premium water bottle is the best water bottle for gym, office and travel. Leak-proof, BPA-free… Perfect gift. Best water bottle 2026!”Trust 0%, redAd-like wording: it repeats the listing and never mentions using it.
“Very good product, nice quality, value for money. Thank you seller, delivered on time. Must buy.”Trust 25%, amberGeneric praise: could be about anything. Not proof of a fake.
“Filled it with ice at 9pm and there was still ice at 7am… I cross-thread the lid about one time in five, which leaks in my bag.”Trust 100%, greenSpecific, checkable detail of use, including a flaw.

What it cannot know

It reads the words of each review. It does not see who the reviewer is, what else they reviewed, or whether a burst of reviews arrived on the same day. A well-written fake can score well, and a lazy genuine review can score badly. Use the scores to decide what to read, not what to believe.

Questions

Does “Verified Purchase” mean a review is genuine?

Not always: sellers have found ways around it. FakeCatch takes the mark into account but scores the text itself.

Will it slow Amazon down?

No. Badges are added after the page has loaded, and each batch of reviews is scored in about a second.

Why do some reviews say “Too short to judge”?

Reviews under 40 characters say too little either way, so they are left unscored rather than guessed at. They are not sent anywhere.

What does it do with the reviews?

It sends the review text to be scored and keeps only the score. It never reads your account, orders or basket.

Does it work in the Amazon app?

No. Browser extensions only run in a desktop browser: Chrome, or a Chrome-based browser such as Edge or Brave. Open Amazon there to check a product before you buy it on your phone.

Is it free?

Yes: 50 reviews scored a day with no account. Pro is $10 a year for no daily limit.
