FakeCatch

FakeCatch: Fake Review Detector

A fake review checker for Flipkart.

Most review checkers only understand Amazon. FakeCatch reads Flipkart’s product and review pages too, and puts a trust score on each review so you can tell a real buyer from a planted one before you order.

How to check Flipkart reviews

  1. Add FakeCatch to Chrome on a computer. There is no account to create.
  2. Open a Flipkart product page. The reviews shown under the product get badges by themselves.
  3. Click “All reviews” to see the full list; every review on that page is scored too, as you scroll.
  4. Click the FakeCatch icon to see how many reviews look suspicious, and the star average from only the believable ones.
  5. Read the green ones first, and treat a page full of red as a reason to look at another seller or product.

What the badges mean

  • Green: specific, believable detail of use, the way a real buyer writes.
  • Amber: generic praise that could be anyone. Common in honest reviews, so it means “read the others”, not “fake”.
  • Red: ad-like or templated text, a review that mentions a reward for writing it, or a review of a different product.
  • Grey, “Too short to judge”: one-liners such as “Nice product”. Flipkart has a lot of these, and guessing at them would be unfair to honest buyers.

A real example

A short Flipkart-style review, “Very good product, nice quality, value for money. Thank you seller, delivered on time. Must buy.”, scored Trust 25%, amber, for generic praise: nothing in it says the writer used the product. A review that reads like the listing (“premium, best for gym, office and travel, perfect gift”) scored 0%, red. One that describes a night of use, and a flaw, scored 100%, green. Written for the way people actually write

Indian shoppers write reviews in every kind of English, often mixed with Hindi or other languages. FakeCatch is told explicitly that informal, non-native or grammatically imperfect English is not a sign of a fake review, and it scores what is said rather than how polished it is. It is most accurate on reviews written mainly in English.

Signs of a fake review on Flipkart

  • It reads like the product listing: brand name, model number and a list of features, with no sign of use.
  • Five stars and only generic praise, with nothing specific to this product.
  • It mentions a free product, cashback, a refund or a discount in exchange for the review.
  • It is about a different product altogether, a sign the listing has been reused.
  • Many reviews on the page share the same phrases or the same shape.

Questions

Does it work on Amazon India too?

Yes. amazon.in is one of the 22 Amazon sites it runs on by itself.

Does it work in the Flipkart app?

No. Browser extensions only run in a desktop browser. Open Flipkart in Chrome on a computer.

Does it understand Hindi or Hinglish reviews?

It reads them, and mixed-language or imperfect English is never counted against a review. It is most accurate when a review is mainly in English.

Can Flipkart or the seller see that I checked?

No. FakeCatch reads the page in your own browser and sends only the review text to be scored. Nothing goes to Flipkart or the seller, and nothing is posted.

Is it free?

Yes: 50 reviews scored a day with no account. Pro is $10 a year for no daily limit.
